A University Education

Is it enough?

Having a university degree or any other form of higher education does not guarantee you'll be successful. There are just some things you won't learn in the class room. You have to "learn" them through your experiences.

Don't get me wrong qualifications are important, but like Donald Trump said on his show "Apprentice" - just being "smart" is such a big part of being successful.

What are "smarts".

Well, it's the ability to think and act quickly in a hostile environment. Or, the ability to think and act quickly in situations which you have no direct experience.

There are many "educated" people out there but they lack the "smarts" to do things that require thinking outside the box.

In the working world, you sometimes find yourself in those situations - where you have to call upon your other strengthswhich lie outside the purview of traditional education.

So how do you get "smart"...not in the academic sense but in the "streetwise" sense?

By putting yourself in situations that you know will bust your walls of security - situations that push you, make you cringe and force you to mature.

Especially situations where you are not stuck behind a desk but have to deal with people regularly. Let me tell you - those situations will sharpen you in a hurry.

If you check it out, alot of rich people didn't go to university. After high school, they started out in sales, marketing or by doing jobs like waiting tables or working in shops. These jobs are rich in life experiences and are extremely customer oriented.

From it, you can learn alot about human behavior and wants. You learn to trust your gut more and acquire good negotiation skills and powers of persuasion. You become adept at delivering customer service. These are thing traditional education can't teach.

So why not start by doing something you have been afraid of doing but know will contribute to your growth.

Whether it be starting a business, taking on new responsibilities, learning a new skill or language. Whatever it is, if it challenges you, then make a decision to start...today.
